Two Jewish schools here, one accenting Yiddish and the other Hebrew, decided to merge into a single all-day school, thus creating a pilot project in Jewish education which may influence the Jewish education system in other parts of Canada and, possibly, even in the United States.
The decision to combine the two schools and initiate the first jointly-operated Hebrew-Yiddish school curriculum was received here today with widespread satisfaction. The combined schools are The Herzlia Academy and the River Heights School for Jewish Children.
Spokesmen for both school groups announced the merger following weeks of negotiation. Full details of the curriculum, as well as particulars of the building program, will be revealed shortly. Basically, the school will bear a religious character, and will offer instruction in both Yiddish and Hebrew.
