For the first time since the Nazi era, Hebrew books are now on display in Germany. Modern literature published in Israel is shown at the International Book Fair here in which 1,300 publishers from 23 countries are participating. Jacob Renka, Jerusalem bookseller, is in charge of the stand with 100 volumes recently put on the market by Israel publishers.
Other books on display include Arnold Schoenenberg’s “The Near East Comes Nearer” and Alex Weissberg’s “The Story of Joel Brand,” a report on the controversial wartime negotiations to save Hungarian Jews conducted by Brand and Dr. Kastner, who was assassinated in Israel last year. German translations have been brought out of Gerald Reit-linger’s “The Final Solution,” of the David Ben Gurion biography by Danish Lutheran minister Paul Borchsenius, and of the description of illegal immigration into Palestine furnished by Jon and David Kimche.
