A new form of missionary propaganda among Jews was adopted in Hungary with the establishment here of what is termed a Hebrew Christian sect.
The sect which requires no baptism of applicants for membership consists mainly of Jewish intellectuals. Baron Podmaniczky, a Christian, has joined the sect which includes, it was stated, some teachers of the Budapest Rabbinical Seminary. The leader of the sect is the former Talmudist, Abraham Feiks.
In a statement issued to the press today, Chief Rabbi Hevesi expressed his opinion that the new sect is nothing but a new form of Christian missionary propaganda and will therefore have no particular significance. He stated he was confident that the teachings of this, sect will not affect the internal peace of the Jewish community.
