Much interest in the Moslem world, in and outside of Palestine, has been aroused by the Hebrew translation of the Koran prepared by Dr. Joseph Rivlin, staff member of the Hebrew University School of Oriental Studies, and published by the University.
The translation is termed a gesture of goodwill and fellowship toward Islam by the Light, a Moslem weekly in English published in Lahore, India, which comments appreciatively in a leading article on the fact that Dr. Rivlin spent twenty years on the translation.
The editorial contrasts the breadth of vision of the modern Jew with the frequently narrow and sectarian outlook of the modern Moslem, holding the latter greatly different from the days when Islam welcomed both Jews and Christians as the other “peoples of the book.”
