Hebrew U. Set to Observe Its 10th Birthday

The Hebrew University in Jerusalem today completed preparations for the celebration on April 1 of the tenth anniversary of its dedication by the late Lord Balfour.

Friends of the Hebrew University in the United States and in many other countries will hold nation-wide celebrations in their respective countries, according to word received here by Dr. J. L. Magnes, Chancellor of the University.

In Jerusalem, an elaborate ceremony will take place on April 10, at which Dr. Magnes will be the principal speaker. An international broadcast from Jerusalem of Dr. Magnes’s speech will be arranged for audiences in the United States.

There are now eighty professors and lecturers in the academic staff of the university. Ten of them are supported out of the German Emergency Fund.

The Hebrew University Library now has on its shelves more than three hundred thousand valuable volumes. Many books were received this year, as a result of events in Europe, particularly in Germany and in Poland.

WARBURG CHAIRMAN OF CELEBRATIONS HERE

Elaborate preparations for the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the dedication of the Hebrew University in Palestine, under the chairmanship of Felix M. Warburg, were announced yesterday by Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach, president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University.

A chain of dinners and meetings will be held from coast to coast and the voices of Sir Herbert Samuel, James de Rothschild and Dr. Judah L. Magnes, chancellor of the Hebrew University, will be heard in an international broadcast from London and Jerusalem, to be carried over the blue network of the National Broadcasting Company on Tuesday night, April 2, from 9:30 to 10:30 o’clock.

Among the projects planned for the next ten years, according to Dr. Rosenbach, are the development of an #gricultural college that is expected to do much towards making secure the economic future of Palestine; the establishment of a meteorological station; extensive researches in tropical medicine, and the building of a great medical center. A three-year program for the acquisition of renowned scholars formerly attached to German universities is also under way, as many as seventeen having already been placed on the staff of the University.
