The Hebrew University’s Museum of Jewish Antiquities, endowed by Kootcher, late South African Jewish philanthropist, was opened yesterday. Dr. Eliezer Sukenik, archaeology professor, announced that the museum would be named for the Russian Zionist leader, Vladimir Tiomkin, in accordance with Kootcher’s wish. Other speakers at the ceremony were Dr. Judah L. Magnes, president of the university, and N. Kirschner, president of the South African Zionist Federation.
Kirschner laid the cornerstone for a school at Ramat Yochanan named for Prime Minister Jan Smuts of South Africa. Representatives of the Jewish Agency, the Palestine Foundation Fund and neighboring settlements attended the ceremony.
