Dr. Aryeh Dvoretzky today became the first Hebrew University graduate to hold the post of vice president of the University. Dr. Dvoretzky, professor of mathematics at the school, was named by the board of governors, to succeed Prof. Michel Evenari, who has held the position since 1953.
Prof. Evenari, a botanist, resigned to devote full time to research on reconstruction of ancient methods of farming in the Negev. Such research is now considered of vital importance in Israel’s efforts to repopulate the area.
