Hebrew University Library Gets Berthold Auerbach Letters

The collection of autographs of prominent Jews which was donated by Dr. Abraham Shwadron to the Jewish National and University Library some months ago was enriched by the gift of Mr. Emile Honigman, the son of the novehist David Honigman, of a collection of letters written by Berthold Auerbach, David Honigman was a well-known author in his day, and his books the Grave of Sabionetta and Berl Grenadier, were very popular. David Honigman was a dear friend of Berthold Auerbach, and the letters now presented to the Jerusalem Library are documents of this close friendship of two prominent German Jewish writers.

Mr. Joshua Gordon has donated to the Library a collection of many valuable and rare Yiddish books and newspapers including the newspaper Der Yiddishe Congress which was published by Pincas Rutenberg in New York in 1915. and which is now very rare.

Mr. Nathan I. Kaplan has donated to the Jewish National and University Library a number of important manuseripts which were transmitted to the Library through Prof, Boris Schatz of Jerusalem. Among the iterms included is the Tarshish of Rabbi Moshe ben Ezra. a copy made by the well-known scholar Solomon Frensdorff. Several statizas missing in the printed text are to be found in this copy, which has also a commentary on the margin.
