The first anniversary of the opening of the Hebrew University on Mount Scopus was celebrated here Thursday night.

A large audience assembled in the Salle Dorsay where Nahum Sokolow, chairman of the Zionist Executive, handed to Paul Painleve and M. De Monzie diplomas of their inscription in the Golden Book of the Jewish National Fund. M. Painleve and M. De Monzie in reply declared that they were happy to work on behalf of France for the success of the Zionist efforts.

Mr. Sokolow in his address explained the significance of this historic event, concluding with the traditional Hebrew prayer: “Shehechyana V’kimanu.”

Painleve and De Monzie joined the audience in singing the Hatikwah, after which the Marseillaise was sung. “Vive la France” re-echoed throughout the hall.

The French press expressed satisfaction with the result of Jouvenel’s visit to Palestine and his having reached an accord with Lord Plumer.
