A student strike for improved economic conditions prevented the opening of the Hebrew University’s new academic year Monday. University circles believe that Communists are responsible for the strike.
During a debate on the strike in Parliament today, Minister of Education Ben Zion Dinaburg appealed to the students to call off their strike, pointing out that both the government and the University is attempting to improve their housing and food. A student committee, however, told newsmen that the strike would not be ended until both the government and the University gave definite assurances that they would fulfill their promises to improve matters.
