A dispute flared today between the government and the Jewish community in Hebron which is demanding separate municipal status. The government so far has rejected the demand. The Hebron settlers sent a sharp letter to Premier Golda Meir demanding that the government implement its master plan for building a separate Jewish quarter in Hebron which has Cabinet approval.
Last year the government agreed to establish a modern Jewish quarter within the environs of Hebron but, according to the settlers, the promises of additional construction, industrial development and preparation for self-government have not been kept.
