Heinz Galinsky, Jewish community leader in Berlin, warned against future reversals in German-Israel relations. He told the “Allgemeine Juedische Wochenzeitung” that relations between the two countries require “extra special care.” Referring to Bonn’s stated policy of neutrality in the Middle East, Galinsky said that while this was in principle accepted and respected by Israel, neutrality did not mean that one should avoid distinguishing between attacker and attacked. He added that Chancellor Willy Brandt’s visit this week to Israel was undoubtedly one of the most important occasions in German-Israel relations until now.
