Following the Joint Distribution Committee’s decisition to curtail its expenditures in Greece, the Foundation for the Relief and Rehabilitation of Greek Jews which administors heirless Jewish property has acceded to a request that it help support the Jewish communities of Greece.
The Foundation has granted 125,000,000 drachmao — approximately $8,350 — toward the cost of communal administration for the first six months of 1950. The total exponditures of the communities for that period is estimated at some $60,000, one-third of which will be spent for the Athens Jewish Community and its institutions. The Jewish Central Board, through which the J.D.C. disburses funds in Greece, will provide that portion of communal administrative costs which the Foundation does not pay.
