Helping to overcome the conflicts in the Middle East is a top priority for Germany, its foreign minister said.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, speaking April 12 at Harvard University as part of its Conference on Germany in the Modern World, said that modern Germany’s responsibilities “do not end at Europe’s borders.”
He described the recent meeting of the German and Israeli cabinets in Jerusalem and their joint visit to Yad Vashem as “a deeply touching and emotional moment.”
“This historic meeting demonstrated once again Germany’s firm commitment to Israel,” Steinmeier said. “It is for precisely this reason that we actively engage also with the Palestinians and Israel’s other neighbors in the region.”
