Former Vice-President Henry Wallace today backed the Jewish demand for a voice at the United Nations during discussion of the Palestine problem.
Wallace also proposed that the U.S. lower its immigration bars for a period of three years and admit both Jewish and non-Jewish DP’s. He made these proposals at a press conference today.
“I sympathize with the Jewish soldiers for a homeland and for a voice in the United Nations,” he said, asserting that he believed that the slaughter of European Jews by the Nazis would never have been carried out had there been a Jewish nation in existence. “The 11,000,000 remaining Jews are entitled to speak” as a nation at the U.N., he declared.
