Herbert Morrison Advocates Direct Talks Between Israel and Arabs

Only direct negotiations between Israel and her Arab neighbors will resolve the conflict in the Middle East, Herbert Morrison, last Labor Foreign Secretary, said last night at the annual dinner meeting of the Anglo-Jewish Association Mr. Morrison suggested that “rational” border adjustments which did not attempt to whittle down the size of the Jewish State could be helpful in the working out of a final agreement

Hugh Molson, Minister of Works in the Macmillan government, associated himself with the British people’s friendship toward Israel and called that state “sympathetic with the West and imbued with democratic ideals.” He blamed the Soviet Union for much of the present tension in the area and said that Soviet Communist Party leader Nikita Khrushchev was furthering policies laid down by Czarist Russia.
