Herman Spertus, a giant in Jewish philanthropy, died Wednesday at age 105. Spertus was the major benefactor of the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies in Chicago, and served on the board of directors of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago from 1959-1968.
