HIAS officials in Amsterdam have obtained passage for 400 Jewish refugees to Australia on a Dutch ship, it was announced here today by Abraham Herman, president of the organization.
The immigrants will include displaced Jews from Garmany and Austria as well as Jews from Poland, Hungary and other European countries. Included in the group will be several rabbis, doctors, students and children who will join relatives in Australia. The sum of $160,000 has been advanced to the Netherlands Government by the HIAS which will finance the trip for those who cannot pay their own passage.
