A request to congregations throughout the United States for permission to make appeals to the worshippers on the forthcoming High Holidays for contributions was made Saturday by the president of the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America, in accordance with its annual custom.
Abraham Herman, head of HIAS, stated that at no time in Jewish history were funds needed more than at present, in view of the gravity of the situation abroad. The officers of synagogues and temples are asked to send their aid directly to HIAS.
