The Hias Commission, consisting of Miss Cecilia Razovsky of the Council of Jewish Women, Mrs. Lillian Held and Mr. Morris Assofsky, Director of the Hias, returned yesterday on the S. S. Orizaba from Havana.
The investigation made by the Commission established the fact that the Jewish emigrants stranded in Cuba are in a very bad situation. Many of them would gladly return to their native lands, but are unable to do so because of a lack of means.
The Commission established in Havana a center for these emigrants, opened an employment bureau, library, synagogue and classes for the instruction of Spanish and English.
A full report of the Commissions activities will be published shortly.
