HIAS is operating 135 shelters for single men and women newcomers in Israel, according to a report submitted to its board of directors here, The shelters each accommodate from 20 to 240 persons. HIAS has allocated $600,000 for this project which it undertook in agreement with the Jewish Agency for participation in the overall program of reception and absorption of immigrants.
