In the presence of Argyle Mackey, U.S. Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization, the HIAS today opened at its headquarters here a special alien registration bureau to help aliens of all faiths and nationalities file their annual report with the government during the month of January, in accordance with a provision of the Internal Security Act of 1952.
Commissioner Mackey came from Washington this morning to observe the registration process at the HIAS bureau and to help register the initial group of callers, including several G.I.’s recently discharged from service and awaiting citizenship, and a 100-year-old man who has been examined by the Supreme Court and expects to receive his citizenship papers by Spring. Seven HIAS branch offices at Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington will also assist all aliens in filing their reports.
