The Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America, has called a conference of its members and representatives of affiliated organizations for today at the Society’s headquarters.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the Jewish situation in Germany with special reference to the Jewish refugees who have fled from Germany to various European countries and on whose behalf Hias has been appealed to.
It is proposed that the conference shall empower the Hias Board of Directors to create a Jewish Refugee Emergency Fund which shall be spent partly for immediate relief purposes and partly to enable refugees to settle in other countries. The money raised is not to be spent in Germany but in the countries where Hias has offices and to which the refugees have come for aid.
Simultaneously with the meeting in New York similar action will be taken in Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco where the Society has branches in this country.
