An appeal for funds to enlarge the activities of its Department of Shelter, in view of the acute distress occasioned by the unemployment situation will soon be issued by the Hias. This was decided upon at a meeting of the board of directors of the organization presided over by Abraham Herman, president. This decision was arrived at after a report had been presented to the effect that the number of applicants for food and shelter was increasing, taxing the Society’s capacity.
People applying to the Hias for food and shelter receive three meals a day and a night’s lodging, and in many cases this relief is extended for a longer period.
