Residents of this all-Jewish city demonstrated yesterday against High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope as he left a museum at which he had delivered a dedication address. Visibly irritated, Sir Arthur had a proclamation read ordering the booing crowd to disperse, No arrests were reported.
The demonstration was believed to have been prompted by reports that the Government was contemplating measures restricting immigration and land sales, and by the recent announcement of a representative legislative council.
Among the other speakers at the museum dedication was Meier Dizengoff, 75-year-old mayor of the city.
The Government warned Haboker, Hebrew daily, not to publish anti-Government attacks on pain of suspension. The paper had recently assailed the Government’s attitude toward the Jews.
