The Supreme Court of Canada invalidated yesterday a Montreal by-law forcing stores in that city to remain closed on certain Catholic holidays. The Supreme Court’s decision, which upset an earlier ruling of the Quebec Court of Appeals, was unanimous. The appeal was pressed by seven large Montreal retail stores against a by-law passed in November, 1951.
