The High Jewish Holidays begin this week at Sundown Wednesday with the celebration of Rosh Hashona, the beginning of the year 5694, according to the Jewish calendar. The holiday will be celebrated in the Jewish homes and in the synagogues.
Among the orthodox Jews, the holiday celebrations continue for two days, among the reformed Jews, only one day.
Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, begins at sundown on Friday, Sept. 29, and ends at sundown Saturday. The ten days between are known as the “Ten Days of Penitence.”
