Colonel Isopesou, former Rumanian chief of police in the city of Golta, who is one of the war criminals being tried here on charges of organizing massacres of Jews, was accused today of ordering the mass-murder of 40,000 Rumanian Jews in the bogaanovka camp, 20,000 Jews in the Domanovka camp, and many thousands of Jews in other camps.
All these camps were established by Col. Isopesou in the Golta area, in Transnistria, when this section of the Ukraine was occupied by German and Rumanian troops. Testimony at the trial today established that the corpses of the 40,000 Jews who were deported from Rumania to the Bogdanovkn camp were thrown into the Bug river. The 20,000 Jews in the Domanovka camp were killed by order of Col. Isopesou on the pretext that they were spreading typhus and other diseases.
Another high Rumanian official, General Michael Iliescu, who occupied the post of Inspector General of the military police in Transnistria and Besserabia, was charged at the trial with ordering the annihilation of all Rumanian-Jewish deportees held in the Mostovoi camp in transnistria. His order was carried out so thoroughly that not a single Jew was left alive in the camp.
The trial of these officials is attracting nation-wide attention. The hearings are expected to continue for several days.
