The High School Teachers Union was scheduled to meet today to consider a new offer from Education Minister Yigal Allon to end their two week-old strike that has halted classes for tens of thousands of Israeli pupils. The union leaders met yesterday with Mr. Allon after the Knesset voted 39-17 to call the teachers back to work. They were reportedly offered a new set of proposals for salary increments and new machinery to adjudicate teachers’ claims within a set time limit. The educational television network is preparing to expand its daily lesson programs to prepare students for the matriculation examinations they will have to set for early next year.
