Establishment of a “Hillel Chair of Jewish Literature and Thought” at Vanderbilt University here was announced today. Rabbi Samuel Sandmel, formerly director of the B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation at Yale University, will assume his duties as professor of the chair on Sept. 1. There are now a total of three chairs of Judaic studies which have been endowed by the Hillel Foundations.
