The Hillel Foundation of George Washington University here today denied that it was waging a battle with the University administration nor that the University’s president had censured Hillel for inviting Negro guest artists to the Foundation.
Leaders of the Foundation also emphasized that Hillel has no knowledge of facts reported by a columnist in the English-Jewish press that a Jewish student veteran was expelled because of his protestation of the University’s policy and that veteran amputees were denied admission to the University’s Lisner Auditorium.
The columnist’s report resulted in a statement made in the House yesterday by Rep. Arthur G. Klein of New York criticizing George Washington University and charging its administration with racism. The columnist had reported that the Hillel Foundation at the University incurred the wrath of the University president when it endorsed, with other religious groups on the campus, a resolution against the University’s anti-Negro policies.
