A resolution calling for recognition of the state of Israel by the Indian Government, and extending “fraternal greetings” to the “brave sons of Israel,” was adopted here today by the All-India Working Committee of the Hindu Mahasabha, leading nationalist organization.
The resolution “deplored the discriminatory policy of the Nehru Government in refusing recognition to the new state.” It added that the people of Israel, “After years of courageous and tenacious struggle against international forces, have recovered their freedom and established a progressive state on modern democratic lines.” The resolution urged that “steps be taken immediately for the recognition of Israel and the establishment of intimate relations with its people.” A copy of the statement was forwarded to President Chaim Weizmann of Israel.
V.H. Deshpande, secretary-general of the Hindu Mahasabha, told correspondents that his organization was eager to foster political and cultural relations with Israel.
