Histadrut, Israel’s labor federation, announced that it will not hold its usual parade on May Day, the traditional international labor holiday, because it conflicts with the day of mourning for those who fell in Israel’s war for independence in 1948. The memorial day which precedes Israel’s Independence Day celebrations, falls on May 1st this year according to the Hebrew calendar. It will be observed as a day of rest for all except those employed in essential services, Histadrut said.
