Four thousand torch bearers paraded through the streets of Tel Aviv tonight, as Histadrut–the Israel Federation of Labor–opened its celebration of the 40th anniversary of the birth of the organization.
Pinhas Lavon, secretary-general of Histadrut, reviewed the parade from a grandstand in front of the Histadrut headquarters. Hundreds of rallies celebrating the anniversary were scheduled to be held tonight and tomorrow throughout Israel. A giant mass rally will be held here Wednesday night, to be addressed among others, by President Itzhak Ben-Zvi.
