Aharon Becker, a Knesset member and a leader of the Israeli Labor Party and Histadrut, declared today that it was “regrettable that several speakers have exploited” the forum of the International Labor Office “for the now-stereotyped wild charges against Israel.” Mr Becker representing the workers’ section of the Israeli delegation to the ILO plenary conference here, said: “I do not propose to follow them into sterile polemics. This is not the place for a discussion of Arab-Israel relations.” He then stated that “The people of Israel want peace with their neighbors” and that direct negotiations are required to that end. Mr. Becker also added sympathy for the victims of the Peruvian earthquakes and the Rumanian floods.
