The Histadrut, Israel’s huge labor federation, plans to amend its constitution to permit small employers to become full members, it was disclosed today.
Among the proposals to be voted on at the Histadrut convention, which will open February 10, will be one allowing owners of workshops employing a few assistants to become members. Under the proposal, membership also will be opened to artisans and self-employed members of some professions.
Since such proposals are considered “deviations” from basic Histadrut trade union principles, left-wing parties in the Histadrut are expected to oppose them, it was reported.
