The annual convention of the Histadruth Ivrith, Hebrew Federation, is now in session here. It was opened by Ch. A. Friedland, Superintendent of the Cleveland Talmud Torahs and Abraham Goldberg, the chairman, spoke on the necessity of studying and spreading Hebrew.
Addresses were delivered by Rabbi Harry S. Davidowitz of the Cleveland Jewish Center, Ezra Shapiro, president of the Cleveland Zionist district, Aaron Garber, president of the Cleveland Talmud Torahs, and Jennie Zwick of the Gan Ivri. Abraham Speishandler reported that the Histadruth Ivrith had gained many new members in the last year, a number of prominent personalities having joined the organization.
Reports on the various educational conferences which have helped to popularize the Hebrew language and the special organizations of Jewish professional men and women that have been created were made. It was also announced that a number of new Hebrew books had been published and that continuance of the Histadruth Ivrith’s organ, “Hadoar” was assured. Plans were announced for a year book to be published shortly.
The delegates yesterday were the guests of Cleveland Hebraists at the Cleveland Jewish Center where Rabbi Hillel Silver was the main speaker.
