A four-day convention of the Histadruth Ivrith of America, a Hebrew language and culture association, opened at the Breakers Hotel here today in the presence of numerous Hebrew scholars and educators from all parts of the country.
The convention will discuss problems of Hebrew culture in America and Israel and will map plans for the broadening of the organization. One of the sessions of the convention will be devoted to the role of Hebrew in the 300 years of Jewish settlement in America.
Addressing the convention, Samuel J. Borowsky president of the Histadruth Ivrith, reported that since the last annual gathering of the organization there has been a marked upsurge of interest in the Hebrew language in the United States. “With the cooperation of the Department of Education and Culture of the Jewish Agency, and the Zionist bodies, especially the Zionist Organization of America, the tempo and extent of the Hebraic activities conducted by the Histadruth Ivrith throughout the country, has made great headway,” he stated.
