The present political situation in Palestine and the Jewish community’s struggle to secure abrogation of the White Paper were outlined to Soviet Ambassador Alexander Bogomolov by M. Orenstein, a Histadruth delegate to the recent world trade union conference here and a leader of the left-wing Hashomer Hatzier.
Orenstein expressed the hope, during his conversation with Bogomolov, that the Soviet Union and other great powers would assist in the rescuing of the surviving Jews in Europe. He presented the Ambassador with recently published Hebrew translations of a volume on Lenin by Stalin and a novel by Konstantin Siminov, Russian war correspondent, based on the battle for Stalingrad.
The Palestine labor leader told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he felt that the resolution adopted at the trade union conference, calling for increased Jewish immigration and understanding between Jews and Arabs, would have considerable influence. He revealed that Vicente Lombardo Teledano, head of the Latin American federation of labor, would tour Palestine shortly on behalf of the World Federation of Trade Unions.
