Some 200 volumes on the history of Jews in America were presented to the Society of Friends of Touro Synagogue, historic shrine, at its fifth annual meeting here tonight. The collection, given by Dr. M. Leo Gitelson, New York philanthropist, will be known as the “Bailey Gitelson Library of American Jewish History” in memory of the donor’s mother.
Dr. Bernard G. Friedman, society president, presented the collection to Donald T. Gibbs, librarian of the Redwood Library and Athenaeum here, where it will be available to the public. The synagogue and the library both were designed by Peter Harrison, colonial architect in the Eighteenth Century.
