Adolf Hitler is invited to designate an official representative who will represent Nazism in “The Case of Civilization against Hitler-ism.LL to be held on March 7 at Madison-Square Garden.
Dr. Samuel Margoshes, editor of The Day and vice-president of the American Jewish Congress, told delegates of a number of Jewish and non-Jewish anti-Naz$ organizations meeting at the New School for Social Research of plana for the mass demonstration. He said that “we shall be glad to have an accreditd representative of the Hitler government come and state his case. We would do our very best to see to it that he gets a respectful hearing. .If Hitler or Ambassador Luther feels that he wants to send such a representative for his defense, he is quite welcome to do so.”
Dr. Margoshes, in outlining the plans for the meeting, declared that its objective will be a presentation of actual evidence in the form of a trial. Every group now being persecuted in Germany wiH present ‘ evidence. They include Jews, Liberals, Socialists, Communists, pacifists, intellectuals. Catholics, Protestants, women, trade’ unionists, artists, etc.
“The counsel/’ he explained, “would call upon the witnesses, and will then sum up the case.”
WISE SPEAKS
Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, honorary president of the Congress, toW the delegates that America Is not yet fully conscious of what is going on in Germany. “Perhaps the best way of helping victims of Hit-lerism/’ he declared, “is by having protest meetings.”
Discussing the recent riot at the anti-DoIlfuss mass meeting in Madison Square Garden, Rabbi Wise declared, “There will he no disorder brooked in the Garden. Any attempt at disorder will he ruthlesly suppressed. There is no justification for any group trying to take possession of the meeting.” He characterized the fight on Frtr day as “a disgrace,” and said that it was really a great helpi to the Dollfuss case.
During the discussion that followed, a number of organizations pledged cooperation. They included the Friends of German Democracy, German Workers Club of Brooklyn, Jewish War Veterans, the Union of Orthodox Congregations, tSx&JF Teachera Union and the National Committee to Aid Victims pf German Fascism.
MOLEY TO ATTEND
Dr. Margoshes revealed that among the speakers who will be heard at the demonstration next month, Professor Raymond Moley-will represent the Liberals, and It is expected that Albert Einstein will speak for the intellectuals. Other speakers scheduled to attack Hitlerism include Williara Green, president of the American Federation of Labor, Samuel Sea-bury, May6r LaGuardia, Alfred E. Smith, Dr. John Haynes Holmes, Arthur Garfield Hayes, and Da Wis.
It was estimated at the meeting, over which Nathan D. Pearly man, vice-president of the American Jewish Congress, preside^ that the- Garden will be crowded tS capacity.
