German appropriations for foreign propaganda have been substantially increased in the last few months, the Social Democraten, the Swedish official organ, reports. Since November, white failing to pay even the interest on her external debts, Germany has spent abroad more than 80,000,000 marks for spreading Nazi ideas. No country in the world is free from Hitler-paid propaganda, which is most intensive in France and England where more than 25,000,000 marks recently has been spent for that purpose.
The sums spent by the Nazis in other countries are given as follows: 15,000,000 marks in Austria, 5,000,000 in Czechoslovakia. 750,000 in Switzerland, 750,000 in Belgium, 500,000 in the Baltic States, 200, 000 in Denmark and Finland, 1,000,000 in Rumania, 1,500,000 in Holland, 2,000,000 in South America, 4,000,000 in the United States.
The Swedish newspaper explains that the figures it mentions do not include money spent for Nazi propaganda by German steamship companies which have become actual agencies for the dissemination of Hitlerism abroad. The latter companies, while German shipping has fallen off more than 50 percent, have doubled their foreign personnel.
The German consulates are further sources of Nazi propaganda. In the United States, for example, the German consulates are employing over 300 Nazi propagandists.
The greatest part of the funds laid out by the Hitler government abroad, adds the “Social Demokraten,” is for anti-Jewish propaganda.
