While Rabbi Eschelbacher, one of the leading Rabbis in Germany, was conducting a service in the Great Synagogue in Duesseldorf (Heine’s birthplace), Hitlerists bombarded the synagogue, hurling huge stones through the windows, which crashed into the interior, without, however, injuring any of the worshippers.
At Emden, the synagogue, the adjoining residence of the Rabbi, and other Jewish houses have had antisemitic inscriptions painted on during the night. The Emden Jewish Community is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the vandals.
