All the files and documents of the Zionist Organization in Berlin have been subjected to an efficient espionage system that has kept the Nazis well-informed of every event that transpired and of every decision reached in the most secret councils of the organization. Not only did the Nazis have complete access to the Zionist office, it was learned, but they used the basement of the premises as a storehouse for rifles, ammunition and bombs.

It was not until the Nazi press in Berlin made references to a document which had been seen by only sixteen Zionist officials, and copies of which existed only in the locked files of the Zionist office, that any suspicion arose that the Zionist organization was being systematically spied upon by the agents of Hitler. These references created a stir among the Zionists who began a thorough investigation among their number to discover the source of the leak.

When this investigation cleared all the members, the officials set a watch over the building in the Meinekestrasse, and soon discovered two Nazis entering the office with keys. The men were familiar with the office and immediately went through the files, studied records and other papers and made copies of them. Subsequently, it was learned these agents also utilized Zionist organization stationery in sending out propaganda circulars.

The investigation disclosed that a German woman, who had served as caretaker of the office for a number of years, was responsible for permitting the entry of the Nazi agents. Two of her brothers were members of the organization, it was later learned, and she had furnished them with a key to the place. They had obtained keys to all the filing cabinets and desks and were thus enabled to keep more fully aware of developments in the Zionist world than the rank and file of the membership of the organization.
