Adolf Hitler is described as “neither a lunatic nor a genius, but a patriot on fire, rapidly burning up,” by the Rev. Dr. Henry Merle Mellen, pastor of First Presbyterian Church here.

Dr. Mellen detailed his impressions on returning from a tour of Europe.

“Hitler’s Jewish policy,” the Presbyterian clergyman said, “finds other European nations largely non-committal. It is short-sighted and blunderingly undiplomatic, of course. But if the truth were known, I believe the anti-Semitic movement is secretly encouraged from beyond the boundaries of Germany.

“Meanwhile it is helping the Zionist movement in a direct way. Jews leaving Germany are not considering so much the advantage of habitation in other Gentile countries as they are soberly pondering the advisability of re-peopling Palestine and establishing a bona fide Jewish national state there.

“Throughout Europe there seems to be a growing exodus of Jews to the Holy Land with that purpose in mind.”
