After forty-eight years of service in the corps of detectives assigned to guard the Dutch royal family, M. Cappel, only Jewish member of the force, retired on a pension today.
In the course of his long service with the royal family, Cappel carried out many important missions for his government. Whenever Queen Wilhelmina and her family went abroad or traveled in Holland Cappel was always in close attendance.
He was the recipient of many decorations for bravery from his own and other governments. He was a knight of the order of Orange-Nassau, held the gold medal of the same order, and was also a knight of the order of the Dutch Lion.
King Victor Emanuel of Italy bestowed upon him the knight-hood of the order of the Crown of Italy. The French government also decorated him.
