Memorial services were held in synagogues throughout Israel today to commemorate the World War II Nazi holocaust. On Mount Zion here, special services were held in the Cave of the Holocaust, where ashes from the crematoria of several Nazi death camps are preserved as a monument to the 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the Nazis.
In Tel Aviv, several hundred young Israelis gathered outside the German Embassy on the eve of Holocaust Memorial Day, planning to light six candles in memory of the six million Jewish victims. Fearing an incident, police asked the group to move on. The service was held in nearby Independence Park.
