— A studies project designed to inform junior high school and high school pupils of the dangers of anti-Semitism is under preparation, to be introduced into the Dutch school system in the 1982-83 school year. Titled “Holocaust,” the project is a joint effort of the Foundation for the Development of Curricula at Enschede and the sub-faculty for social history at Erasmus University.
It is headed by Dr. Ido Abram, who specializes in educational psychology and is Jewish. He is being assisted by a number of non-Jews. The guide for teachers calls for a total of 20 hours of instruction and is modeled after Holocaust teaching projects in the United States, Britain, West Germany and Israel. Considerable attention will be given to the history of Jews in The Netherlands.
Some observers, however, have questioned whether a 20-hour project on anti-Semitism is realistic in Holland where the Jewish student population is vastly outnumbered by immigrants from Turkey, Morocco, Surinam and other Third World countries.
