London municipal officials and Jewish leaders met today with the Home Office Undersecretary and expressed their concern about the scheduled march of Oswald Mosley’s Union Movement Sunday through the heavily Jewish East End of London. They asked Sir Charles Cunningham, the Permanent Undersecretary of State at the Home Office, to ban the fascist march.
Sir Charles thanked the group for presenting their views and said that the Commissioner of Police of London had instructions to act, with the consent of the Home Secretary, against public processions of a political nature in the metropolitan district during the next weekend. It was disclosed that 600 policemen will be on duty in the East End on Sunday ready for trouble.
Members of the delegation included representatives of the boroughs of Bethnal, Green, Hackney and Shoreditch, the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen, the Mayor of Hackney and the Deputy Mayors of Shoreditch and Bethnal.
