Edward Ginsberg of Cleveland, president of the United Jewish Appeal and chairman of the American Joint Distribution Committee, was last night honored by the Hebrew University which conferred upon him an Honorary Fellowship. Premier Golda Meir was present at the two-hour ceremony but did not speak. Her presence, however, provided an added dimension to the function.
Ginsberg, the immediate past general chairman of the UJA, a post he held from 1967 until his election as UJA president Dec. 11, was lauded for his activities by Louis Pincus, chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive, and Avraham Harmon, president of Hebrew University. Pincus said that Ginsberg’s role provided a turning point in the activities of the UJA.
He also noted that Ginsberg belongs to the native-born generation of American Jews who were once feared lost to pro-Israel causes but who provided an unexpected continuity when the older generation began to retire a half decade ago. Among his numerous communal activities. Ginsberg is also a vice-president of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
